Overview of Toyota Zambia’s 2014 CSR Programs

Going beyond business to enrich the quality of life of the community in which it operates, Toyota Zambia’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme is in-line with its shareholders objectives of improving the quality of life for the communities in which it works and lives.

Toyota aims to be a value creating company that contributes to the creation of a prosperous nation. Its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy is focused on supporting tangible programs in areas of education, health, safety and environmental protection.

Toyota is committed to promoting corporate social responsibility, strengthening the innovative capacity of local businesses and assisting with training and skills development. In this way, the company not only strengthens local businesses, it also helps to establish tomorrow’s potential suppliers and business partners for the Zambia’s private sector in a genuine win-win situation.

In 2014 Toyota’s total Corporate Social Responsibility program spending was in excess of over K670, 000, spent in various programs based on key focus areas. The graph below gives a detailed cost breakdown of its activities;

The Arts and Culture costs relate to the support Toyota gave to traditional ceremonies mainly; the Kazanga, N’cwala, Kulamba Kubwalo, Umutomboko, Chakwela Makumbi and Kuomboka.

Toyota’s commitment to support traditional ceremonies is aimed at contributing to the preservation of Zambia’s rich cultural history.

The company strongly believes that the growth and sustainability of its business depends on the trust and support it continues to receive from the Zambian people hence Toyota’s motto ‘Zambia Drives Toyota’.
